Bullet Train Tour

There were a few things that had to be completed before departing Japan. 1.) Ride the Japanese Bullet Train. 2.) Visit Kyoto, Japan. 3.) Climb Mt Fuji. Well, one out of three isn't bad!

First Snow

A Day at Mikasa Park Yokosuka, Japan

We started out today with every intention to go to Sarushima Island. This is something we've been talking about doing for the past 6 months and for several reasons has never worked out. Looking out our window this morning didn't inspire a lot of confidence. The sky was gray, the wind was blowing steadily, and the temperature was hovering around a brisk 35 degrees. Certainly not the makings for a weekend outside, but we had to try. Like I said, this is something we've been trying to put together for the past 6 months. The stars and moon were in alignment, I was off work, the kids were out of school; we weren't going to let a cold day keep us from venturing out on MLK's B-Day!
We parked the car, walked a half mile to the ferry terminal only to find out that the ferry to the island operates on Saturday and Sunday during the months of January and February. Nice!!! Fortunately, the ferry terminal is also at the entrance of Mikasa Park. The park is situated in the heart of Yokosuka, adjacent to the naval base. The pictures we've included don't do the park justice, but you'll at least be able to appreciate a few of the picturesque spots we visited.
Enjoy!
Stay tuned though, we'll be giving it the old college try again in February.

First Post to Our New Blog

Happy New Years!

It seems like everyone is writing their own blog for this or that reason. Why not us, too! Is it trendy? Maybe, but more importantly, it provides a quick easy way to let those we cherish know what changes are happing with the Bradbury Ohana. At the close of each year, around the later part of October or early Novemeber time frame, I mentally torture myself that each coming weekend I'll sit down and finally write that holiday letter I keep thinking about. This mentally exhausting thought has haunted me for the past 10 years. Maybe I'll get that letter off to you all at then end of 2008!

As the title of this entry states, this is our "First Post to Our New Blog." A site like this would have been the perfect way to keep you all updated on the incredible journey the four of us have had in Japan. For what it's worth, at least we'll be able to share a few more months worth of laughs, special moments, and beautiful photos of the surrounding area before leaving here.

2008 has a whirlwind of activities in store for us. This coming Spring, Robin, Alex, and Nakai will be transitioning back to the States to set up our new home. While we don't have our 'orders' in hand yet, we are reassured that we'll be moving to Washington State. We are looking to buy our first home in the city of Silverdale, which is about 5-8 miles from Bremerton Naval Hospital. Many of you will remember that Bremerton Naval Hospital was my very first duty station when I enlisted over 15 years ago. Looks like I'll be going full circle going back to the beautiful Northwest. This 'could' be our last PCS (permanent change of station) if I retire after my tour here. YIPPIE!!!

It's difficult to anticipate how often this site will be updated. Please check back periodically to see any new comments we've put up and to view the new pictures we'll be posting.
